Pre-stressed Concrete Building Materials Take the Pressure Off Of Stress
Pre-stressed concrete building materials can reduce tensile stress in heavy loads. Bigger structures present a much larger volume of stress and tension, even with the presence of rebar steel rods, although traditional rebar reinforcement considerably reduces the stress level on the whole.
Pre-stressed concrete is a method of replacing tensile stress in a structure with compression stress, using cable or rod tendons. The rods create a clamping load allowing compression to work. Pre-stressed concrete building materials are used for this function in three different ways, pre-tensioned, bonded post-tensioned, and un-bonded post-tensioned.

Prestressed Concrete Building Materials
Pre-tensioned concrete uses pre-tensioned tendons. After casting and adherence, when the tension is released from the tendons it is transferred to the concrete, creating a stronger friction hold. Floor slabs and balconies benefit from this method. Pre-stressed concrete building materials are used in the casting process, and for post-tensioned concrete, a steel or aluminum tube or duct is implemented to allow compression after concrete pouring and curing. The difference between bonded and post-bonded in this case is the presence of the steel tubing, which determines the movement freedom the tendons have during the process. The pre-stressed concrete building materials are similar since all three methods deal with removing as much tensile stress from the concrete as possible.
Applications for pre-stressed concrete building materials lie largely in high-rise building floors and residential foundations. Also, this method is effective for construction in soft soil areas. Post-tensioning concrete is pertinent for nuclear reactor chamber reinforcement. Pre-stressing concrete can lower construction costs due to less material usage. Post-tensioned slabs have a bigger span than traditionally reinforced slabs. This limits the number of joints, subsequently adding more stability to a structure.
Pre-stressed concrete building materials are a good idea for stress reduction in a concrete structure.
